Stoic is Backcountry's in-house brand, and like the company's name it's designed to get you off the beaten track and back again. The Bombshell women's insulated jacket fits right in with features designed for your next epic.
The Bombshell is a fully welded hardshell of the new generation, not your momma's old crinkly noisy stuff. Adjustments a-plenty include a helmet compatible two-way adjustable hood, removable powder skirt with grippy keeper strip (and two mystery snap loops, maybe for matching pants?) and a hem drawcord. Pockets are many-many, all zippered: two low side fleece-lined handwarmers, a chest with a horizontal zip, a left ski-pass sleeve pocket and an interior pocket with cord port. The cuffs are rip-and-stick adjustable with fleece extensions complete with thumbholes that easily tuck away so you can use or not, as you prefer.
The Bombshell performs under pressure. The material breathes well, thanks in part to the the welded (not taped) seams, and additional venting is provided by two short mesh-backed pit zips to make sure you can keep your cool. Insulation is provided by 100g of Cirrus synthetic. The only nitpick: the interior of the body area is overly quilted, which looks pretty but impedes the ability of the insulation to loft and trap warm air. The hood on the other hand has very little inside stitching and you'll definitely appreciate the extra warmth there. The Bombshell is still plenty warm above 20F, and can easily go colder with layering. It's a fitted cut with a very tapered waist, so if you intend to layer you might want a size up. If you're looking for a warm, stylish and feature-rich jacket definitely check out the Bombshell.
