Skout Organic Trailbars

Gearflogger reviews Skout Organic Trailbars

Variety is the spice of life, and sometimes spices are the variety. Skout organic trailbars embodies this with their delicious alternatives to all the "me-too" bars on shelves these days.

Skout bars are made in Portland, Oregon, out of organic ingredients. Unlike some so-called organic bars, Skout bars have only a handful of ingredients, all of which you can actually pronounce. They're also vegan, dairy/soy free and contain no refined sugars.

We tried chocolate coconut, our personal favorite, and chocolate peanut butter, cherry vanilla, apple cinnamon and blueberry almond. All of them have organic dates as the first ingredient, rounded out with oats for texture and the various flavorings. We'll save you the suspense: they all taste fantastic, and the best part is that the flavors, while robust, aren't overpowering. This prevents "flavor fatigue" (oh yeah, that's MY phrase! I think…) which is a factor on longer trips.

Nutrition is 170 to 200 calories per bar, with a good balance of protein, fat and simple and complex carbs. If you're looking for a great tasting, ultra-healthy energy bar to fuel your next adventure, give Skout organic trailbars a try. You'll love them at first bite.
