Outdoor Research Sun Bucket hat

Gearflogger reviews the Outdoor Research Sun Bucket hatSweet deity's ass, the heat! If you're baking in the sun like everyone else this summer, you need a reliable hat. Amateurs wear baseball caps: the tried and true boonie hat is still the standard do-everything, go-everywhere chapeau for serious weather protection.

Outdoor Research knows hats, and their stellar selection of toppers includes my favorite the Sun Bucket boonie hat, available in a multitude of colors (including Multicam!). The Sun Bucket is perfectly constructed from a UPF 50+ ripstop nylon/polyester blend. It repels sun and, although it's not a rain hat, it works perfectly well in light precipitation.

The beauty of the boonie hat is there is just enough space above your head to allow air to circulate, and the brim goes all the way around for 360 coverage of your face, ears and neck. You can easily drape a bug net over it too. The Sun Bucket goes the extra distance with a drawcord to adjust the inner microfleece crown, which is great if you need the occasional light insulation layer underneath. A chin drawcord completes the package for securing your investment in windy conditions.

So sun, wind, even light rain, the Sun Bucket does it all and looks good doing it. When you're done, just roll it up and stow it. It doesn't get any better than the Outdoor Research Sun Bucket.
